West Brook Harvest Festival

Well another West Brook Harvest Festival is in the books. (Disclosure: Wine Gonzo works in a Sales and Marketing capacity for West Brook Winery, but then my impartiality is seldom part of the appeal).

The bleak weather forecast caused some consternation early in the week, with Armageddon roughly forecast to coincide with the festival's 11am Sunday start time. By Friday, Armageddon was downgraded to 'pissing down,' which was then downgraded to slightly cloudy by Saturday. Sunday dawned cloudless and hot with a light breeze and I brushed the Pepperjack Shiraz from the night before out of my mouth and hit the road with an ear-to-ear grin.

My girlfriend's scathing reviews of Kantuta playing on the streets of Devonport meant I had low expectations for their performance. But on the day, they turned out to be quite adept at the key facet of festival entertainment -- keeping pissed-up over-fifties on the dance floor -- so I can forgive their cat-squealing rendition of The Macarena.

The public's unhealthy obsession with pinot gris continued and our 09 was incredibly popular despite it probably being the least classy of our whites, and the 06 Merlot/Malbec also had quite a following for such a hot day.
